Among the uncertainty that COVID-19 has brought upon the world, one thing we do know for sure is that social distancing is here to stay for the foreseeable future. The Irish government are working on plans, presently, to lift restrictions and get the wheels of the economy moving again. However, when we do return to our previous places of work, the way we operate our day to day tasks will be quite different.
Our Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar made clear that while the government are working on plans to lift restrictions gradually, it is the responsibility of business owners to identify ways that they can get their workforce back in a safe manner whilst adhering to government guidelines.
First and foremost, they need to think about how they are going to maintain social distancing in their workplace. The next item is to identify ways that they will monitor the health of those coming in and out of their premises to ensure that any early warning signs of COVID, such as high temperature, are identified and responded to quickly.
Solution
As mentioned above, one of the key identifiers of COVID-19 is a high temperature. Our partners, Dahua, are market leaders in the development of thermal temperature measurement technology which takes a reading of an individual’s body temperature using a thermal camera. This camera is safe, targeted and contactless, thus adhering to social distancing guidelines.
Dahua is the market leader in this area and was one of the early contributors to the epidemic prevention control within Asia. On January 24th, they deployed their first batch of product to the epicentre of the initial outbreak – Wuhan.
How Does it Work?
The Dahua Thermal Solution can be applied in any business that needs to operate in a physical building. For example, banks, health centres, retailers, hotels, restaurants can deploy this technology to ensure that the people entering their premises are not displaying a high temperature that could be COVID related.
The thermal camera can capture and produce highly accurate body temperature results to within +0.3 degrees Celsius (with blackbody). It also has a built-in AI algorithm to enable the measurement of multiple people who are up to 3m away. A traditional handheld thermometer not only poses a risk for cross-contamination, but it also has a much lower capacity to measure individuals temperature taking 4.5 hours to screen 5,00 people. The Dahua Thermal Solution can measure 3 people per second.
If someone does display a high temperature, an alarm will be raised automatically in less than 5 seconds of screening.
High in Demand
These products are in high demand on a global scale right now:
In the financial capital of Asia, Hong Kong, the Dahua Thermal Solution has been installed in local business complexes to enable people to return to work safely.
Just this week, the BBC reported that Amazon had installed thermal cameras into their warehouses around the world to screen workers for high temperatures.
Indeed this solution is suitable for businesses of any size.
